Traversal

Traversal is a small projection-mapped fluid simulation, built alongside the amazing Asa Calow of Madlab, during our 2019 Sheherzade residency in Lahore, Pakistan, where we joined 20+ local artists to take over the ancient walled city of Lahore, a UNESCO candidate heritage site. The aim of the project was to bring water into the city, echoing the prevalent themes of water and the quenching of thirst found in both the Quran and the cultural story of Lahore’s past and present. The work used a live fluid simulation built in openFrameworks via the classic ofxFlowTools, with movement detected using the Kinect’s depth sensor. The final result was then projection-mapped onto the tiled floor of the space we took over during the residency. Big thanks to British Council and Madlab for making this happen.
